Sadguru Shankar Maharaj

Yogiraj Shri Shankar Maharaj was undoubtedly one of the greatest saints of Maharashtra in the modern age. He was an Auliya or Avadhut, a term used for yogis who have reached perfection and have achieved Siddhis (occult powers). He belonged to the Nath Panth (Sect), though he did not follow its their dress or mannerisms. He took samadhi in Pune at the age of about 150 years on April 28th 1947, an event which he had postponed for seventeen years at the request of his disciple Dr Nagesh Dhaneshwar. His Samadhi Mandir which houses his physical body is in Pune on the Pune-Satara road about 10 Km from Pune Railway station. Hundreds of devotees visit the Mandir every day to pay their respects and receive blessings. It is strongly believed and experienced by his devotees that even though Maharaj is no longer in his physical body, he still looks after the welfare of his devotees. There are many instances reported by his devotees and disciples of his having appeared before them either in his own form or through the bodies of others in the time of crisis.

योगीराज श्री शंकर महाराज निस्संदेह आधुनिक युग में महाराष्ट्र की सबसे बड़ी संतों में से एक था। उन्होंने कहा कि एक औलिया या Avadhut, योगियों, जो पूर्णता पर पहुँच गए हैं और सिद्धि (मनोगत शक्तियों) हासिल की है शब्द का इस्तेमाल किया था। उन्होंने नाथ पंथ (संप्रदाय) के थे, हालांकि वह अपनी उनकी पोशाक या व्यवहार का पालन नहीं किया। उन्होंने कहा कि 28 वें अप्रैल 1947 को लगभग 150 साल की उम्र में पुणे में समाधि ले ली, एक घटना है जिसमें उन्होंने अपने शिष्य डॉ नागेश Dhaneshwar के अनुरोध पर सत्रह साल के लिए स्थगित कर दिया था। उनकी समाधि मंदिर है जो अपने भौतिक शरीर घरों पुणे-सतारा सड़क के बारे में 10 किमी पुणे रेलवे स्टेशन से पुणे में है। भक्तों के सैकड़ों हर दिन मंदिर का दौरा अपनी श्रद्धांजलि देने और आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करते हैं। यह दृढ़ता से विश्वास है और अपने भक्तों द्वारा अनुभवी है कि भले ही महाराज ने अपने भौतिक शरीर में नहीं रह गया है, वह अभी भी अपने भक्तों के कल्याण के बाद लग रहा है। ऐसे कई उदाहरण अपने भक्तों और उनके शिष्यों के द्वारा सूचना या तो अपने स्वयं के रूप में या संकट के समय में अन्य लोगों के शव के माध्यम से उन्हें पहले दिखाई पड़ रहा है।
